A Series of Events by !ShakeTheShame:iconShakeTheShame:

the sun is warm
too warm, I think
I am blinded in the blaze
and my heart sinks
I fight to stand
and stand the pain
roll my shoulders
but all in vain

gravel and dust
fists clenched
your eyes looked past me
as my heart wrenched
I drove for the win
I dove for the light
I wanted to die
but it just wasn't right

doctor's in the hall
checking the charts
you can't give up on life
before it starts
and soon it will change
it will all change soon
I'll feel warm again
twelve minutes past noon

work without pay
working today
work up the courage
to live my way
tripped and I fell
fell into you
we're not what we say
we are what we do

PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING.

A stream of consciousness description of growing as a person.

When I was 15, I had back surgery. Before that, I walked and looked horrible (severe scoliosis). There was a lot of physical pain, and I did not enjoy life very much. This poem follows that time period to present day... to finding love and moving on... to working for success... things I could not have done if I hadn't decided to survive.

Done as part of a college project. I hope you can derive as much meaning from this as I do.

After reading the description, I do. This would be a good poem for anyone down in the dumps to read. Sort of a "things get better if you let them" thing. The rhyme is gorgeous and tastefully done, and your choice of words is quite astounding and very appealing.

Awww, thank you so much!

These things that have comforted me, I drive away
This place that is my home I cannot stay
My only faith's in the broken bones and bruises I display

Wow, this is really good, I love the imagery and rhetoric. The message is very powerful as well as the writing itself, the fact that it is based on events in your own life just makes it that much more compelling.
